I'm Michael, a designer and researcher who works on games and VR.
I help manage the DILAC lab at Georgia Tech, where I completed my M.S. in Digital Media designing digital prototypes, physical computing objects, and games. I wrote my thesis about game engine use in Japanese indie game development, under the supervision of Ian Bogost.
Outside of Georgia Tech, I help organize Different Games and run inclusive game workshops at Charis Bookstore.
In former lives, I taught English in a Russian university, and trained in bunraku puppetry in Shiga Prefecture, Japan.
Most recently, I co-founded a company named Fanaticus to create immersive entertainment experiences. Check out this early iteration of our VR "magical broom flying" prototype, which quickly became Georgia Tech's most popular social media item and was featured on 11alive. In November 2018 we had the honor of graduating from The Farm, a startup accelerator based at Comcast NBCUniversal.
